Just for fun — a food-preference quiz, not a psychological or health assessment.

Twenty quick questions. No wrong answers — just how you like to eat.

The four letters

Each letter is one side of how you eat. Your code is the four sides you lean toward.

  • 1. Discovery

    • E: Explorer

      Chases dishes they've never tried

    • R: Regular

Has go-to spots and go-to orders

  • 2. Company

    • G: Gatherer

Eats best around a shared table

    • S: Solo

Savors a meal on their own terms

  • 3. Planning

    • P: Planner

      Researches, saves and books ahead

    • F: Freestyler

Follows the craving in the moment

  • 4. Occasion

    • C: Celebrator

      Turns meals into an occasion

    • D: Daily

      Loves easy, everyday eats

The fifth letter: Bold or Mellow

After the four letters comes a flavor dial, written like a suffix: EGPC-B or EGPC-M. It never changes which of the 16 types you are. It says how loud you like what's on the plate.

  • -B: Bold

Wants heat, funk, crunch and big flavor

  • -M: Mellow

Wants balance, comfort and clean flavor

The four families

Your first two letters put you in a family: how you find food, and who you share it with.

  • Scouts

    EG··

    Explorer + Gatherer

Scouts are the friends who text the group about a place that opened last week, then get everyone there. New food is better when there are people to pass it to.

  • Wanderers

    ES··

    Explorer + Solo

Wanderers chase new dishes on their own schedule. A counter seat, a side street, a stall with no sign: they would rather taste it first and tell you about it later.

  • Hosts

    RG··

    Regular + Gatherer

Hosts know the place that works and fill it with people. The food is familiar on purpose, so the night can be about the table.

  • Keepers

    RS··

    Regular + Solo

Keepers have a short list of places and a perfected order at each one. They know exactly what they like, and they enjoy it at their own pace.

Taste type vs match score

Your taste type is how you eat, just for fun. Your palate is what you love, and in the app that is what your match scores use.

Your match score (0–100) is how well a dish or place fits your palate — not the crowd's average. See how taste matching works.

Good to know

What is a taste type?

A taste type is a four-letter code for how you like to eat: Explorer or Regular, Gatherer or Solo, Planner or Freestyler, Celebrator or Daily. It works like a personality type, for food. Each of the 16 types has its own character, like the fox for EGPC or the sloth for RSFD.

What does the -B or -M at the end mean?

The fifth letter is your flavor dial: B for Bold (heat, funk, crunch and big flavor) or M for Mellow (balance, comfort and clean flavor). It never changes which of the 16 types you are, so an EGPC-B and an EGPC-M are both Destination Diners who order differently.

What are the four taste type families?

The first two letters put you in a family. Scouts (EG) find new spots and bring people, Wanderers (ES) explore on their own terms, Hosts (RG) gather people around trusted places, and Keepers (RS) keep their favorites close.

Is the taste type quiz free?

Yes. The quiz is 20 questions, takes about 4 minutes, and needs no account. Your result stays in your browser.

How is a taste type different from a match score?

Your taste type is how you eat, just for fun. Your palate is what you love, and in the Palytt app that is what your match score on every dish uses. Learn how taste matching works.

Is this a personality or health test?

No. It is just for fun — a food-preference quiz, not a psychological or health assessment.
